A Homemaker’s Social Life

11.05.08 | Comment?

A lot of people think that if a woman is a homemaker and does not have a full time job that she does not have a job. It appears that if someone makes the decision to take care of their children and remain at home with them, this doesn’t qualify as work and you would either need to have employment or no employment. Their assumption about full time homemakers is that they have it easy as they are at home and can do what they want.

That is not necessarily true. Moms and grandmothers are also full-time homemakers most of the time. Homemakers are overburdened by social obligations, a fact that people are oblivious to. Homemakers keep busy with church and other social organizations. These things may not be things of true importance or priority.

The majority of the time a homemaker spends ensuring that the home is safe and clean for her family. Homemakers will also have obligations outside of the home. They readily escort children to school trips and parties. For many of these events, they will offer their services for driving. They will bake dozens of cookies for these events.

Did you want to know what a room mother is, I see your wonderment. They are stay at home parents who volunteer for a number of events at the school and are helpful in doing so. Examples of cupcakes are red and white for Valentine’s Day or red and green for Christmas.

It is evident that being a homemaker is no less an occupation. Your social obligations are just the same whether you work in the home or outside the home.
